This has been the week of frozen treats in this house. Summer really started for us on July 1, and we’re hitting it full force! We were doing a major house purge/cleanout/finally give Rye a room, and so our weekends were quite full. Because it feels like it got off to a bit of a late start, we had a true staycation over the 4th. And it was just what we needed.

In the past, a “staycation” for us has just meant being at home, not...

This sounds like a dramatic title for a recipe, especially one for egg salad….I get it. But honestly, egg salad has saved me! When Finn was a newborn I had a hard time prioritizing feeding myself. When I had a free moment I didn’t know what to do, and usually eating wasn’t top on my list. This was for two reasons - I was avoiding SO many foods due to digestive issues for him, and I had nothing that was easy to grab and eat wit...

I got you with this title, didn’t I?? She’s posting about apple donuts, I better check this blog out!! Ha, well sorry….they’re not REAL apple donuts. But they’re pretty darn good. Horizontally sliced apple with yummy toppings. Or, you could make them into apple sandwiches, and really go to town!

I’m a big snacker, I always have been. I’m not sure if it’s because I grew up eating and loving snacks, or if it’s just what my metabo...

The last couple days have been cool at home, and I’m totally tempted to just jump into everything Fall. I really want to post soup and bone broth recipes, but I'm not letting myself until September! I want almond flour pumpkin muffins, pumpkin pie spice in all of my drinks, sweaters, slippers and all of the soups. But NO! I’m stopping myself. We still have almost two full weeks of Summer left...longer if you go by the official...

I was at a 4th of July party yesterday and I brought my dip, obviously. A woman at the party said, "you know it's really too bad, the people who don't think they like goat cheese. Because they really do like it, everyone likes it, they just think they don't." She's totally right. If you don't think you like goat cheese, try this!!

This dip is super simple, and REALLY yummy. I’m hoping it makes me famous one day, it’s that good!...

While my diet is not gluten-free today, I strictly avoided gluten containing grains for over 3 years. I had stubborn digestive issues, and skin issues for years - removing gluten from my diet really helped. I noticed an improvement in my digestion, my energy and my skin. In an effort to heal my digestive system, I not only removed those grains, but I also had homemade bone broth and homemade sauerkraut about 5 times a week. By...

In part one of this article, we learned about the importance of fueling our bodies with all three macro-nutrients - protein, fat, and carbohydrates. When we eat a meal that has all three, and not too heavy in carbohydrates, we have the potential to feel strong, energized, and healthy - all day long! Eating enough protein and fat helps to balance and modulate the “blood sugar roller coaster” that many of us feel when we don’t e...

We all know the feeling of being painfully hungry, “hangry” as some like to call it. You get home and you know you need food, and you need it RIGHT NOW. When we’re in this state, it’s rare that we make a healthy choice. If there are chips or cookies in the pantry, these foods are usually what we go for. Because the hunger runs so deep in this state, many of us overeat to the place of not feeling well, and to the point of feeli...

Dates, coconut, peanut butter, pumpkin seeds, a little sea salt, and a few chocolate chips - what’s not to love? A balance of protein, fat and carbohydrates does the body good. You know what else does the body good? Having a snack just like this to eat when you need a little something. Say it’s 3pm and you would usually have a cookie and a coffee, have an energy ball! Say you’ve just had a baby and you need calories, and you n...

My son Finn (almost 2 yo) isn’t a big snacker. WHAT, a toddler who doesn’t snack?! He eats three meals a day, always with plenty of fat, protein, and carbohydrates to fuel his body for at least 3-4 hours. No, he doesn’t eat perfectly (!!), and some days he snacks more than others, but most of the time he eats well at meal time. I credit this to the amount of food and the balance we offer at each meal. I do my best to keep up w...
